Real Folk Blues SessionsReal Folk Blues Sessions

In tribute to American music of the past and present, Bates Meyer, Inc. is proud to announce representation of the Real Folk Blues Sessions, featuring LURRIE BELL (guitar), PAUL OSCHER (harmonica, piano, guitar) and KENNY "BLUES BOSS" WAYNE (piano). Available for concert appearances, these individuals unite to pay respect to their heroes, the true purveyors of the real folk blues (such as Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Memphis Slim). They come together in the spirit of the deep blues, tempered with a contemporary edge. With both acoustic and electric presentations, the group will explore their roots, while presenting a look into the future of the blues and create some new ground along the way. All virtuoso players, the musicians each bring a healthy personal history of the music to this project. For availabilities-contact: Rick Bates rick@batesmeyer.com (626) 355-9201.

Blues In The Blood

Lurrie Bell's Chicago Blues Band featuring Eddie Taylor Jr. & Kenny "Beedy Eyes" SmithBlues In The Blood

Lurrie Bell- Son of famed blues harmonicist Carey Bell, Lurrie Bell picked up his father's guitar at age six and taught himself to play. He was clearly gifted beyond most. In addition to that, he grew up with many of the Chicago blues legends around him. Eddie Taylor, Big Walter Horton, Eddie C. Campbell, Eddie Clearwater, Lovie Lee, Sunnyland Slim, Jimmy Dawkins and many more were frequent visitors to his house. They all helped to shape and school him in the blues, but none as much as his father's long time employer Muddy Waters. Lurrie Bell's elegant and intense guitar playing and passionate vocals have made him a favorite at clubs and festivals around the world and have earned him a reputation as one of the “leading lights” in the future of the blues.

Eddie Taylor Jr.- To those of us who knew Eddie Taylor's music and his legacy with Jimmy Reed, watching his son and namesake come along and put a career together is tremendously exciting, and to see Eddie Jr. play his father's cherry red Gibson stereo with nearly the same quickness of fingers and the familiar stinging staccato attack is a marvel of continuity. Maybe it's genetics. Maybe it's cultural. Maybe it's just discipline and a good ear. Whatever it is, it's just fine.

Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith- Only in his early 30's Kenny has already toured and recorded with artists like Pinetop Perkins, Homesick James, Billy Boy Arnold and the late great Junior Wells and Jimmy Rogers. Son of the legendary Willie "Big Eyes" Smith (Muddy Waters drummer from 1968 – 1981 and a blues legend in his own right), Kenny is arguably the best young blues drummer in the world.
